About the Author
Kannan M. Krishnan is Professor of Materials Sciences and Physics at the University of Washington. He graduated from IIT, Kanpur, earned his Ph.D. from University of California, Berkeley in 1984, and then held various scientific and teaching positions at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and UC, Berkeley, before joining the University of Washington as the Campbell Chair Professor in 2001. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society, the Institute of Physics (London), the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. He has been awarded the Burton Medal (Microscopy Society of America) and the Fink Prize (IEEE), has been recognized as both a Guggenheim and Rockefeller Fellow, selected as a Fulbright Specialist and a JSPS senior scholar, presented with the Distinguished Engineer/Scientist award (TMS), elected as a member of the Washington State Academy of Sciences, and has received the Alexander von Humboldt Research Award. He has held visiting appointments at distinguished institutions in all six continents, and is widely recognized for his teaching with multiple awards at University of California, Berkeley and University of Washington, as well as professional societies (IEEE Magnetics Society Distinguished Lectureship).
