About the Author

Dr. Adrian Kilcoyne graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 1995. Following time as a Registrar in Reproductive Medicine in London, he spent some time as a Specialist Registrar in Public Health Medicine in Oxford followed by some years as a GP. He completed a Masters in Public Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and a Masters in Business Administration at Warwick Business School. He joined the pharmaceutical industry in 2006 to become a Senior Clinical Research Physician in Diabetes at Eli Lilly. He has since held Medical Director positions at Baxter Healthcare and Roche and is now Medical Director at Sanofi Pasteur MSD, a dedicated vaccine company. Adrian has completed the Diploma in Pharmaceutical Medicine and is a Member of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine and has completed Higher medical Training in Pharmaceutical medicine.

Daniel O'Connor is a Leicester medical graduate with a background in cancer research, histopathology and oncology. He joined the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) as a Medical Assessor in 2006 from a clinical lecturer post at UCL/UCH/Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research. He works in the licensing division of the MHRA, mainly reviewing oncology products and is also the UK representative on the Committee for Orphan Medicinal Products (COMP). He completed specialist training in Pharmaceutical Medicine in 2012. He is a fellow of the Foulkes Foundation.


Dr. Phil Ambery qualified in medicine from the University of Bristol in 1994. He undertook registrar training in the South-West of England and in Sydney, before returning to the UK in 2000 to study diabetes and endocrinology before leaving the NHS to work for GlaxoSmithKline. Since then he has held various posts in the GSK commercial organisation and latterly as a clinical program leader in the metabolic and cardiovascular pathways group at Glaxo. He is also an honorary clinical fellow at Addenbrooke's Hospital Cambridge, and a GMC specialist partner. He has a number of publications in the field of diabetes and cardiovascular medicine, and on the MRCP examination.

WARNING: Abridged! NOT the "classic tale" as promised

The back of this book promises "the classic tale of a peddler, some monkeys and their monkey business."

And I love the classic tale, and so do my kids, for its sweet innocent text, its rhythmic repetitions and the unique character and palette of its illustrations. All of which are preserved here except... as I discovered when I sat down to read this to a group of kids at circle time... the delightful text. Oh, and some of the pictures.

I would definitely not call it the SAME BOOK since the text is different, and I think it's mighty sneaky of the publisher (HarperFestival) to hint that you're getting "the classic tale" when what you're getting is some editorial department's cut-n-slash decisions about what makes the book tick.

What I like about this book is the repetition of the order of the hats, which kids enjoy as well, but one full repeat is missing, and another has been pared down slightly. Some of the text has been skipped - the entire second page - and elsewhere, it's paraphrased for brevity.

Perhaps if you've never read the original, you'll enjoy this book. For me, used to the rhythms and humour of the original, this board book version is woefully lacking.

Luckily, our version is from the library, so all I have to do is give it back - no returns processing necessary. I hope others will learn from my mistake before it ends up costing them the $9/$12 (in Canada), plus shipping, that they'd have to pay to get this book home. And the disappointment of knowing it's not the "classic tale" at all.

Good intro to a classic story for grab-happy kids, but I miss the original full version

I adore this story, and this little board book got my son hooked on it as well - but as others have mentioned, it's abridged and lacks some of the familiar rhythm that makes the original story so great. Once my son stops trying to tear apart paper pages, we will definitely be switching to the original version.

Abridged! No where near as good as the classic!

I purchased this board book for my 2-year-old daughter who had fallen in LOVE with my mother's 1966 paperback edition, in an interest to preserve its delicate pages.

You can imagine my disappointment as I read it to her, discovering that important phrases, entire pages, and key details were left out of this edition, especially the rhythmic phrasing, and some of the low points of the book, completely flattening what had been a dynamic and suspenseful story. Even she noticed the difference and asked for the old book back.

I would love to be able to get a new copy of the original story, however this is not it.

Tony's old Mafia boss, Carmine Leone, hires him to find his kidnapped lover Babs, an Alpha werewolf. According to Wolven Security Chief Lucas, she isn't the first Sazi female to be reported missing. As if Carmine's demands aren't enough, the world leaders of the shapeshifter clans have converged on Chicago in order to train Tony in the use of his new "gift."

Sure, piece of cake! He just has to find Babs, keep the pack leader from ripping his face off because Tony doesn't play well with others, and solve the mystery of the missing Sazi females....nothing to it! All Tony really wants to do is grab Sue, find the closest secluded horizontal surface and spend some quality time with his mate. These pack problems are really getting to be a pain!

Although Moon's Web starts out slowly, it is an excellent continuation of the Sazi series. It is a bit frustrating when the authors hinted at situations that occurred in the first book without giving full explanations. However, the heat between secondary characters Bobby and Asri keeps the story moving along at an even pace. My imagination got quite a full workout with the eclectic mix of shapeshifters. I wasn't certain how the authors could gather that mix into a cohesive law enforcement unit, but they did a wonderful job. I highly recommend that you read Hunter's Moon first to avoid confusion of characters and plotlines. Oh, the villain of the story? Well, read Moon's Web and be amazed!

These two authors really cook up a great story! I enjoyed the first one so much I bought all of the series. I think I may survive waiting for the next installment--but you should really hurry!!

It's been a while, but I think I go the items on time....Yeah I did, cuz I was so excited when I got them. The book is really good. I enjoy the main characters quick wit and almost "I'm apart of my own pack so deal" type of attitude. He's totally awesome.

This book, truly, is a for fans of this staggering film. I viewed the film in Hobart, Tasmania, after reading about it for months. It is a sort of re-imagining for Mailer's Ancient Evenings; a retelling that visually incorporates themes of love and regeneration, the loss of the manufacturing industry, relationships to our forbears and what we leave behind. Go read the book, see the film, then buy this for a fulsome sense of storytelling completion.

This is a fantastic book. Worth the wait and its weight. I won't be reading the essays and synopses (of which there are many) until I finish Ancient Evenings (halfway there. Highly recommended if there is doubt) and then amendments shall be made. A wonderful testament of that which was and is and is to come (soon I hope). A delight in every way. That's all you get. Anything else you need is up there in the description.

classic text, but be careful about the volume

This is a classic text from the era before most genes were cloned. A potential source of concern is that it is sold without mention that the book is two large, similar appearing volumes. Currently only volume 1 is listed for sale at Amazon. However,resellers of the book may send you only volume 2. This happened to me twice and it was quite difficult to sort things out successfully. This apparently happened to the other reviewer as well. Things would be clearer for all if the second volume was listed for sale separately or the book was sold and listed as a complete 2 volume set (or both).
