About the Author
Paul Calter is Professor Emeritus of Mathematics at Vermont Technical College and Visiting Scholar at Dartmouth College. A graduate of The Cooper Union, New York, he received his M.S. from Columbia University and a MFA from Norwich University. Professor Calter has taught technical mathematics for over twenty-five years. He is a member of the American Mathematical Association of Two  Year Colleges, the Mathematical Association of America, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the College Art Association, and the Author's Guild.

Calter is involved in the Mathematics Across the Curriculum movement, and has developed and taught a course called Geometry in Art and Architecture at Dartmouth College under an NSF grant.

Professor Calter is the author of several other mathematics textbooks, among which are the Schaum's Outline of Technical Mathematics, Problem Solving with Computers, Practical Math Handbook for the Building Trades, Practical Math for Electricity and Electronics, Mathematics for Computer Technology, Introductory Algebra and Trigonometry, Technical Calculus, and Squaring the Circle: Geometry in Art and Architecture.

Michael Calter is Associate Professor at Wesleyan University. He received his B.S. from the University of Vermont. After receiving his Ph.D. from Harvard University, he completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of California at Irvine. Michael has been working on his father's mathematics texts since 1983, when he completed a set of programs to accompany Technical Mathematics with Calculus. Since that time, he has become progressively more involved with his father's writing endeavors, culminating with becoming co-author on the second edition of Technical Calculus and the fourth edition of Technical Mathematics with Calculus. Michael also enjoys the applications of mathematical techniques to chemical and physical problems as part of his academic research. Michael is a member of the American Mathematical Association of Two Year Colleges, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the American Chemical Society.

Michael and Paul enjoy hiking and camping trips together. These have included an expedition up Mt. Washington in January, a hike across Vermont, a walk across England on Hadrian's Wall, and many sketching trips into the mountains.

I got an A in my course...

This book was actually very good at explaining some rather complicated things (to me anyway!). There were a few errors in the examples in the early chapters (most notably the chapter reviewing/intro to algebra - things like signs inverted) but these may actually have helped me because I was less likely to turn to the answer key without really trying to get it myself. The online companion part is fantastic, and in my opinion really justifies the price (which is quite high even for a text book). Overall I recommend this book, just make sure you check your answers rather than necessarily take theirs as correct :) I got an A in my class (after only really having a low level understanding of higher level math before) - so it taught me well enough. My only gripe is that the answer key only lists the odd-numbered questions (all answers available online), and even the online part only shows step-by-step solutions for the odd numbered questions - some of the even numbered ones I'd like to have seen a guide on.

Technical Mathematics,Fifth Edition, by Paul A. Calter , does a marvellous job in explaining Technical Mathematics.
The information comes in Small Segments so that you are not overwhelmed by multi-segments developments.

You probably remember mathematical texts deep in theories but with scarce examples and convoluted abstract terms; well, Paul A. Calter explains every term in ordinary language with plenty of detailed examples. You see mathematics in use and not just to pass tests and exams.

It starts from plain Addition and Substraction , introduces to Algebra and takes you up to Complex Numbers and Sequences,Series, and the Binomial Theorem.

I particularly loved the 4th chapter on Functions and Graphs.
Well worth its price.

This map provides a good over view and supplement to GPS or another map. I'd bought other National Geographic maps with the same "complaint", not enough detail. I knew I'd have the same problem with this one but bought it anyway because there are not many alternatives available. It met my needs OK and the map is of high quality paper so it stands up well to travel, bad folding and being stuffed in the bottom of a bag for days on end.

The map has too large a scale to be useful. There are no useful city maps. So you can see how to get from city-to-city (there are virtually no route options anyway) but little information for when you arrive at your destination.

An Enjoyable Look Back at the Dawn of the Jet Age

Skyliners takes us across North America, from sea to shining sea, and presents the dawn of the Jet Age in all its glory. Each stop offers an amazing variety of late piston and turboprop and early jet passenger aircraft, ranging from the familiar Boeing 707 and DC-8 to more obscure birds. Those of us who had the good fortune to have witnessed this interesting era in civil aviation will remember with great fondness those United Jet Mailiners, Eastern Golden Falcon Jets, and Delta and American Airlines Flagships and Astrojets.

The photos are generally of good quality and well reproduced. The short captions are entertaining, even if they do not have a great deal of substance. What makes this book worth the money is that it offers a seldom seen glimpse to the late 1950s and early 1960s, one rarely seen in such a high-quality format.

Fantastic photos and information

I came upon this book in a used book sale, of all places. I glanced through it briefly, paid my dollar and took it home. Once there, I started at the beginning and spent the next hour studying the photos and captions. The photographs are excellent, and the information provided is quite interesting. A great coffee table book. I find myself purusing it over and over again just to get lost in the history of the aircraft. There is also a Skyliners 2, and Skyliners 3 (both of which I have already ordered!). if you are an airliner afficionado, you will enjoy this book.

Adela T takes time to describe some of the formative experiences, in her home town in The Czech Republic and on a family holiday in the south of France, which she feels influenced the career and life choices she subsequently made.

In a sense, Adela's tale is a variant on the age-old story of a bright and ambitious young person, stifled by the limited horizons of her home environment, escaping to a more dynamic and exciting place, and making the most of her gifts and talents. Her story forms part of the bigger human story of recent EU enlargement, and the resulting mass movement of so many bright, resourceful and energetic young people to the countries that astutely opened their doors and seemed to offer them the best opportunities.

But it is the sexual interest and not the sociological perspective that will draw most readers to this book. The author is generous with anecdotes and observations regarding the many clients she encountered in her early years both as a professional dominatrix and dinner companion. In most of the early domination assignations she has no idea as to exactly what fetish or fantasy the client will wish to experience until she is face to face with him. Her ability to improvise and think on her feet proves essential.

Adela's first client wants to be kicked repeatedly in a tender part of his anatomy, a service of which she has no prior experience. Her first efforts are appreciatively received, but the client politely requests that she kick harder. Adela obliges: "My next kick would have converted a try from the touch-line on a windy day at Twickenham". His one hour up, the client leaves "with a smile on his face, but a slight limp."

The book is often funny, and I laughed aloud at several of the anecdotes. The author's dry sardonic wit and acceptance of the diversity of human sexuality is well pitched to bring out the humour in situations that others might find disgusting or distressing. Although the author sets up her business primarily to make a living, she is attracted by the innate edginess, enjoys much of the work, and obtains fulfilment and satisfaction from many of her professional encounters and relationships.

There is a summing up and an epilogue at the end of the book, in which the author summarises her general views on the men who form her prospective clientele, and her own motivations. In keeping with the rest of the book, the tone is uncomplicated and down to earth. One can agree or disagree with her conclusions, but they are clearly and honestly expressed.

Although this book only covers the first couple of years of the author's professional career as a dominatrix, it seemed to me to fit worthily into the tradition of `An English Madam', a biography of Cynthia Payne, which was in the 1980s the inspiration for the film `Personal Services', starring Julie Walters.

"Alif Baa" introduces about 150 basic vocabulary words, including social greetings and politeness formulae, most of which are common to standard Arabic and one or more dialects. The book and CDs focus on reading skills, aural recognition, and oral production through extensive drills and accompanying videos. Including authentic materials from newspapers and magazines and skits filmed in Egypt, as well as an English-Arabic glossary, "Alif Baa" lays the groundwork for the rest of the Al-Kitaab language program.

A superior introduction to a potentially daunting task

This book is by far the best introduction to the Arabic writing system that I've been able to find. The accompanying CD's do what no other books dedicated to teaching the Arabic alphabet do, which is teach the sounds of Arabic at the very same time it teaches you individual letters. "Teach Yourself Arabic Script" for example only describes the particular sounds, which can be very different from English sounds and which one usually needs to hear in order to produce.

"Alif Baa" is also bound on the right-hand side, so the reader instantly gets used to the feel of a book which starts on what seems like the back page. Also, the size of the letters when they are introduced is fairly large so that the reader can see the shape of each letter and their sometimes confusing details, since Arabic letters are often variations on a particular theme. The page layouts are neat and uncluttered, the typeography on even the smaller-printed text is crisp, and write-on lines for student answers are ample.

Also, it is not necessary to purchase the videotapes to make full use of this text, as one reviewer complained. In each chapter there is a page dedicated to a cultural note which is illustrated through video scenes, but this is only an introduction to basic conversation in the Cairene dialect and not an instrinsic part of the book's main task, which is to teach the shapes and sounds of the Arabic alphabet. Contact information for the publisher is given in the back, and the answer key might be obtained from the press, I haven't tried yet. Once a reader has diligently worked through Alif Baa, she or he will be able to jump right in to any basic Arabic course and indeed have a major advantage, since none offer as thorough an introduction to reading and writing Arabic is this title.

Good book, bought it for a class

This is a pretty good book, although I think that they could have had a clearer, more extensive vocabulary list. They need to provide a definition everytime they use a word (which they don't always do) so that many of the words they included had no definition - and I only knew what they were after asking my Arabic teacher. Also the DVD is a little incomplete - it didn't have all the vocab words nor defintions either. However, it is a very good book for learning some basic pronunciation rules, and it's very good for teaching how to write the Arabic alphabet. All in all, a very good book for learning the basics of the alphabet, but other books are needed to learn vocabulary or conversation.

Great for price

Great for price, however, only covers a few Moves/circulations, almost all of them can be found for free on his youtube channel, techniques are depicted/outlined in more detail within the book. Other things, details/principles are gone over with great detail. What you get, is Gold, however, you must be willing to spend several thousand dollars for His mastery beyond what you will get in this book and the free videos. This is like the beginners book, however, many of the leading schools will say to the students repeatedly, it is about mastering the basics/beginning steps. I will find alternatives, but will continue to use these valuable gifts/techniques. Until the day I can afford more of hist mastery.

For many years I tried to find a Chi Kung system that really allows you to work with your chi on a holistic level so you can get the maximum health benefit by investing a minimum of time. But all the books and DVD's I bought before represented only excerpts of what should be a whole. I didn't knew what was missing but they all seemed incomplete to me and the results were always far from satisfying. Also, the exercises were never really organized in routines. But after buying Mr Clyman's Chi Kung Bible, I found everything that I missed in the other chi kung books I bought before. The Chi Kung Bible gives you everything that you need to efficiently strengthen your health and your immune system. At least it is the first chi kung system that really worked very well for me. I have the impression that it even made my will and my personality much stronger. Mr Clyman explains all the important principles that a good chi kung system should include and how and why chi kung really works. He explains every exercise and principle very well and finally organizes all the exercises you learned in the book in a "daily practice routine" that takes only a half hour every day to practice but is highly efficient because it includes all the important principles and exercises in the right succession. I am very pleased with this product and can recommend it to everyone who is interested in Chi Kung and changing his life for the better.

Not the typical empty movements.

I've practiced Chi Kung as taught by a few author/teachers. Each time, after the novelty of the new exercises wore off, I felt left with nothing but a new set of skills that transferred to no useful end. This is where "The Chi Kung Bible" differs: It isn't about skilled movements, it's about a direct, virtually immediate link to the energy promised by other systems. With all due respect to Eastern roots & protocol, they aren't of my culture, & I'm not a student of culture, I merely wanted the physical & mental attributes associated with Chi Kung. For those who share my point of view, "The Chi Kung Bible".
